About Dr. Jodi
My fulfilling and rewarding careers have spanned the non-profit and corporate sectors for over a decade. However, I always felt a deeper calling towards the healing arts. As a young girl, I was fascinated by medicine, health, nutrition and wellness. My early passion in healing perhaps was initiated with a toy microscope I received as a child one Christmas morning. I studied pre-medicine as an undergraduate and have a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Indiana University, a Masters in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NYC and a Doctorate in Acupuncture Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego.
I began to unravel the mystery behind Eastern Medicine while recovering from a triathlon injury. In 2008, I decided to leave my corporate career with Starbucks marketing to launch Bula Yoga. I am a yoga instructor registered with Yoga Alliance and have received over 500 hours of Vinyasa training from Tranquil Space in Washington, D.C. and Prana Flow with Shiva Rea. I have a children’s yoga teacher training certification through Karma Kids Yoga based in NYC and a certification in Pre & Post-Natal through Shiva Rea. I co-developed and led the 2013 Flow Yoga Teacher Training Program at Radiance Yoga in Old Town Alexandria and supported the Teacher Training Programs at Tranquil Space (now YogaWorks) in Dupont and Arlington. I teach private classes, yoga parties, workshops, local and international retreats and corporate classes.
Bula Wellness launched in 2013 and offers a whole systems East Asian medicine approach to your healthcare. I will be the first to admit to being fairly skeptical and nervous about the idea of having someone insert acupuncture needles in what appeared to be random areas of my limbs to help alleviate a little nagging wrist pain. However, when my pain vanished after several acupuncture treatments I realized I had come full circle. Within less than a month after my first acupuncture treatment I applied to Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NYC. I am licensed by the Board of Medicine in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. and a recognized diplomat of NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), which required passing three national board exams, two in Eastern Medicine and the third in Western Medicine. I continued my graduate studies and recently completed my Doctorate in Acupuncture medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I have over 3000 clinical and didactic hours received over a four year full-time rigorous program of study in Traditional East Asian Medicine. I am a volunteer with Acupuncturists without Borders and have completed their disaster relief training. I served on the board of the Acupuncture Society of Virginia from 2015-2017 and sat as the state delegate for the American Society of Acupuncturists. I completed an additional year long apprenticeship program in Classical Chinese Medicine with Timothy Aitken (senior student of Jeffrey Yuen) in NYC. I am an annual participant of an integrative Fertility Symposium which includes fertility specialists from all around the globe since its inception in 2015.
I am trained in four styles of Acupuncture:
* Acupuncture Physical Medicine [Myofascial Trigger Point Release/Orthopedic Acupuncture]
* Kiiko Matsumoto Japanese Acupuncture
* Classical Chinese Medicine
* Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]
I am also trained in Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy and I incorporate these modalities into my treatments as appropriate. I treat patients with an integrative approach.
I specialize in Women's Health, Preconception Care, Fertility, IVF/IUI Support, Pregnancy Support and Postpartum.
I have clinical expertise treating Infertility (including Male Factor Infertility), Pregnancy Related Complaints, Postpartum Care, Menopause and Peri-Menopause, Musculoskeletal/Orthopedic Pain Related Complaints, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Fatigue, Autoimmune, Migraines/Headaches, Digestive Disorders, Allergies and Sinusitis, TMJ, PTSD, Pre and Post Operative Care, Bell's Palsy, Surgical Scars, Addiction, Shingles and Parkinson's.
