How to Best Prepare for Your First Appointment

Eat: Be sure to eat within two hours of your appointment time

What to Wear?: You will be draped and covered with sheets on the treatment table. You can either wear loose fitting comfortable clothes or if you are coming from the office you will be asked to disrobe in privacy for access to limbs, torso or the abdomen as needed.

What to Expect?: We will discuss your medical history for the first part of your session. You will be offered the opportunity to have heat on the table (if appropriate). We have a Amethyst far infrared BioMat, b
enefits of this BioMat can include reduction of pain, improved sleep and stress reduction. All needles are one-time single use pre-packaged needles and disposed of properly as medical waste. We use the highest quality needles from Japan which are nearly pain-free on insertion. 40 acupuncture needles can fit into one 40-gauge hypodermic needle. Acupuncture needles are incredibly small, thin and pain-free. These tiny acupuncture needles are nothing like what most people in the west are familiar with when they think of a needle.

Paperwork: Please fill out and sign online your new patient intake form prior to arrival for your appointment.

Payment at Time of Service: If your insurance coverage includes out of network acupuncture care, you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement from your provider.  We can provide a receipt or a Superbill after each appointment for you to submit to your insurance.  Also, Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts are common employee benefits that allow employees to set aside money pre-tax for medical expenses including Acupuncture.

How Many Treatments will I need?: The frequency and number of treatments differ from person to person. For acute pain conditions of onset of less than two weeks you will be seen once or twice a week for 4-6 visits. During this time, significant signs of progress will likely appear. Some people experience dramatic relief in the first treatment. For acute problems, usually fewer treatments are required.

For complex or long-standing chronic conditions, more treatments will be recommended. An individualized treatment plan that includes the expected number of treatments will be discussed during your initial visit. As patients experience improvement in their condition and enjoy a greater sense of ease in life, treatments may be extended to every other week, every three weeks, monthly and eventually seasonally. In general, you should expect to feel better with only a few treatments.
