She studied pre-medicine as an undergraduate and has a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Indiana University, a Masters in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NYC and a Doctorate in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health and Science (formally PCOM) in San Diego.

Our History |
Dr. Jodi began to unravel the mystery behind Eastern Medicine while recovering from a triathlon injury. In 2008, she decided to leave her corporate career with Starbucks marketing to launch Bula Yoga. She is a yoga instructor registered with Yoga Alliance and has received over 500 hours of Vinyasa training from Tranquil Space in Washington, D.C. and Prana Flow with Shiva Rea. She has a children’s yoga teacher training certification through Karma Kids Yoga based in NYC and a certification in Pre & Post-Natal through Shiva Rea. She co-developed and led the 2013 Flow Yoga Teacher Training Program at Radiance Yoga in Old Town Alexandria and supported the Teacher Training Programs at Tranquil Space (formally now YogaWorks) and mentored teachers. She has taught private classes, yoga parties, workshops, local and international retreats and has led corporate wellness events.
Bula Wellness launched in 2013 and offers a whole systems Eastern medicine approach to your healthcare. Dr. Jodi will be the first to admit to being fairly skeptical and nervous about the idea of having someone insert acupuncture needles in what appeared to be random areas of her limbs to help alleviate a little nagging wrist pain. However, when her pain vanished after several acupuncture treatments she realized she had come full circle. Within less than a month after her first acupuncture treatment she applied to acupuncture school. Dr. Jodi is licensed by the Board of Medicine in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. and is a recognized diplomat of NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), which required passing three national board exams, two in Eastern Medicine and the third in Western Medicine. Dr. Jodi continued her graduate studies and completed her Doctorate in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health & Science (formally PCOM). She has over 3000 clinical and didactic hours received over a four year full-time rigorous program of study in Traditional Eastern Medicine. She completed an additional year long apprenticeship program in Classical Chinese Medicine with Timothy Aitken (senior student of Jeffrey Yuen) in NYC. Dr. Jodi is level one trained in both Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy. Dr. Jodi is a volunteer with Acupuncturists without Borders and has completed their disaster relief training. She volunteered her time and services supporting those critically injured and traumatized from the Charlottsville Rally in August 2017, led a local "We Heal" event in Del Ray in June 2016 after the Orlando nightclub shooting, led a healing event in Old Town Alexandria in November 2023 and organized and led a 3-day clinic in Baltimore, MD supporting Global Refuge in 2024. She served on the board of the Acupuncture Society of Virginia from 2015-2017 and sat as the state delegate for the American Society of Acupuncturists. When Dr. Jodi first opened her practice in 2013 she had a contract with a non-profit organization associated with Ft. Belvoir where she offered free community style acupuncture focused on pain management, PTSD, TBI and stress relief to soldiers and their families transitioning back home from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Dr. Jodi had been an annual participant of an integrative Fertility Symposium which includes fertility specialists from all around the globe from 2015-2020. From 2013-2020, Dr. Jodi continued to learn from Sensei Kiiko Matsumoto (KM) through an annual advanced level Japanese acupuncture study group of KM acupuncture style Medical Doctors and Board Certified Licensed Acupuncturists. From 2020- current, Dr Jodi completed additional training in Chinese Herbal Medicine with Dr. Evan Rabinowitz of Yao Shan Center for Chinese Medicine and continues to study with him monthly. And finally, in the fall of 2023, Dr. Jodi completed an advanced level diploma in fertility acupuncture with one of the leading authorities in fertility acupuncture medicine worldwide and is proud to be the first practitioner in the US on the east coast with this high distinction. |
